June 7 2018: DONNARUMMA, Katherine Franco

“Kay” Age 91

Passed away on June 4, 2018 at Casey House-Montgomery Hospice in Rockville, MD. Kay spent most of her young life in Brooklyn, New York where she met her husband, Carmine Donnarumma in her college years at St. John’s University. As the family grew, she had many happy years in Roosevelt, New York and then Washington Township, NJ and the retirement years in Greenbriar Woodlands, Toms River, N.J. In all these homes, she was active in her community working at the local Head Start Program, enjoying a life full of family, friends, tennis, travel, golf and so much more.  After her husband passed away, Kay moved to Riderwood, an independent living community, in Silver Spring, MD. She enjoyed lively conversations with friends at dinners, taking courses, playing games, and participating in events there. She was devoted to her Roman Catholic faith, hosting a weekly Bible study at her home, teaching the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, and serving as a Eucharistic Minister for St. Luke’s Church in Toms River, NJ.  Most of all Kay lived every day as a Christian. The joy of Kay’s life was her family.  She is survived by 3 daughters, Marie Donnarumma Nezi (Joseph), Barbara Donnarumma Dagastine (Gary) and Joanne Donnarumma Ritter (Ronald); 7 grandchildren, Michele Nezi Marvin (Paul), Tara Nezi Joiner (Andrew), Christopher Anderson, Dana Ritter Stemerick (Anthony), Andrea Dagastine LaBarge (James), Lindsey Ritter O’Neill (Steven) and Leah Donnarumma; 11 greatgrandchildren and two sisters, Joan Franco Devine and Lillian Franco Devine. In addition to her husband, Kay was predeceased by her daughter, Dianne Patricia Donnarumma. Services will be held at a future date at St. Luke’s Church in Toms River, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, the Alzheimer’s Association, or Riderwood Philanthropy (memo: Scholarship Fund).
