JOSEPH KEMP COOK

On Thursday, March 12, 2009, Joseph Kemp Cook, 84, of Silver Spring, MD, formerly of Forest Heights, MD.  Beloved husband of the late Augustine S. Cook; father of Margaret Ann Moeller of Silver Spring, MD, Marian C. Knode of Edgewater, MD, Gregory P. Cook of Pembroke Pines, FL and James R. Cook of Bowie, MD.  Also survived by 3 grandchildren and a niece, Geraldine Manzella.  He retired from both the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant (serving in both WWII and the Korean War) and the American Security Bank as Assistant Vice President and Trust Officer, and served as mayor of Forest Heights.  He was active in the Knights of Columbus, holding several offices including PSD, PGK and PFN, and he served on a number of boards including the Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Institute, the Loyola Retreat House, the Henry and Annie Hurt Home for the Blind and the Shoemaker Home.  Relatives and friends may call at COLLINS FUNERAL HOME, 500 University Blvd., West, Silver Spring, MD, Monday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial at Church of the Resurrection at Riderwood Village, 3110 Gracefield Road, Silver Spring, MD, on Tuesday, March 17, at 11 a.m.  Interment with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery, Thursday, May 28, at 9 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Institute, 801 Buchanan Street, NE, Washington, DC 20017.
